Italian model Isa Stoppi on the runway during Mare Moda Capri. Once called “the woman with two lakes for eyes”, Stoppi was one of Italy’s most in-demand models of the 1960s. Her discovery came after a photoshoot with Gian Paolo Barbieri, which caught the attention of Diana Vreeland, Vogue’s editor-in-chief. The rest is history.
Woodward knew Vreeland's orbit well. She was the one who first sent him abroad with a camera. From the audience, with two silhouetted heads between him and the runway, Woodward captures Stoppi mid-pause, modeling a hand-painted chiffon dress.
